Spirits of Virtue, the Scotland-based marketer of diverse range of branded and private-label non-alc spirits, has landed its US production site and forged a plan to drive to retail via 2-oz pouches that should reduce the price barrier to trial. With expansion under way at its Scotland plant, vertically integrated player has been out recruiting distribution partners ahead of US bricks & mortar launch, including likes of McLane for c-stores, Sysco for foodservice and smattering of beer houses like Silver Eagle in Texas. Looking to replicate the Deeside water it uses in Scotland from Cairngorm Mountains, SoV has settled on 500-acre site that draw on famous aquifers in Hot Springs, Ark, where it's acquired temperature-controlled 30K-sq-ft plant at which it will produce bourbons and tequilas both for US market and for its dozens of overseas markets, while continuing to import styles like NA gin and Scotch whisky that should more suitably boast a European provenance, cofounder Roddy Nicoll told us today from his home in Scotland. He's about to relocate to Arkansas, where co will be hiring 120 to operate plant and in supporting roles, starting imminently with repacking activities, doing test production in early 2026 and being fully rolling closer to mid-year. Eventually, SoV team has view to making site an experiential lure in much the way conventional distilleries draw tourists to romance their products. Meanwhile, existing 10K-sq-ft site in Clydebank, Scotland, is being expanded by 49K ft including storage, with plan to go from 2 lines to 10.Both sites will be able to produce and fill the 2-oz pouches priced in $2.99-3.99 range at c-stores, vending machines and airlines as a means of offering sales prospects a less intimidating price point, while avoiding the fray of RTDs fighting for space in cluttered store coolers. Due imminently, they'll carry a QR code that sends users to more immersive intro to brand.Roddy, a veteran entrepreneur as is his partner/brother, says he's taking a medium-term view of nascent category even as he wrestles with tariffs and whatever other immediate problems he's confronted with. Nicoll said it was premature to discuss initial retail partners, but we'll note on our own that SoV has thriving private-label biz at Germany's Aldi chain, which has been expanding furiously in US, as well as at UK's Asda chain in which Walmart - its new Arkansas neighbor - still holds minority stake. Roddy hopes initial announcements will come soon.On global front, co recently opened office in Prague and has been surprised at takeup of its NAs in markets like Poland that it assumed would be laggards in embracing category, even as sophisticated alc markets like Italy and France have proved harder sells. Brands also have entered Asia, tho Nicoll believes a successful seeding in US will deliver cultural cred that should help with Asia effort.
