The buzz around energy drink category continues as segment grew volume double-digits again for 4 wks thru Sep 6 (including Labor Day weekend) in NielsenIQ data reported by Goldman Sachs. As noted in headline, multiple bev segments posted solid price gains of 5% or higher for last 4 wks. CSD Prices Go Higher; Weaker Volume CSD avg price increase rose to +5.2% (+4.7% for 12 wks) while volume decline doubled to -1.6% for 4 wks. Coca-Cola CSD volume down 1.3% (-0.9% for 12 wks) with a 5.1% avg price increase last 4 wks. KO's low/no-calorie brand volume grew 6.9% along with a 4.9% avg price gain for 4 wks. PepsiCo CSD volume dropped 5.4% (vs -2.9% for 12 wks) as its avg price increase rose to +6.5% for 4 wks. PEP's low/no volume slipped 0.7% on a 8% avg price hike last 4 wks. Keurig Dr Pepper CSD volume off 1.6% (-0.9% for 12 wks) with a 5.5% avg price gain for 4 wks. KDP's low/no volume up 5.2% along with a 5.7% avg price increase last 4 wks. Private-label CSD volume grew 7.9% (+6.5% for 12 wks) with a modest 0.6% avg price gain for 4 wks. Olipop volume up 28.8% (+24.2% for 12 wks) with a 1.4% avg price decrease last 4 wks. National Beverage's Faygo volume slipped 4% with a 4.7% avg price gain for 4 wks. Zevia volume up 25.2% with a 0.8% avg price increase last 4 wks.MNST, Red Bull, Celsius, C4 & Ghost All Growing Double-Digits Energy drink volume soared 14.8% (+13.9% for 12 wks) with a 0.6% avg price gain for 4 wks. Monster energy (excluding Bang) volume rose 4.3% (+2.4% for 12 wks) along with a 5.8% avg price increase last 4 wks. Some key volume drivers over last 4 wks among MNST portfolio: Original Monster (+13.9%), Monster Ultra (+6.7%), Zero Sugar (+22.2%), Juice Monster (+74.4%). On downside, Java Monster coffee/energy saw volume sag 13.6%. Monster's acquired Bang Energy brand volume slipped 6.6% (-5.1% for 12 wks) with a 4.1% avg price increase for 4 wks. Red Bull volume up 12.4% (+14% for 12 wks) with a slight (-0.2%) avg price cut last 4 wks. Summer Edition volume up 42.4%, Red Bull Zero shot up 488% while original Red Bull brand eked out 0.7% increase for 4 wks. PepsiCo energy portfolio (not including Celsius allied brand) volume fell 10.5% (-11.2% for 12 wks) with a 1.5% avg price decrease for 4 wks. Rockstar Boom (+23.3%) and Amp (+5.2%) were only volume gainers among brands listed under PEP. Original Rockstar and its Recovery extension each lost 9% for 4 wks. Califia Farms volume dropped 18.9% with a 6.9% avg price increase for 4 wks. Kitu Life Super Coffee volume down 4.5% and its avg price fell 5.3% last 4 wks.Vita Coco Driving Coconut Gains Coconut water volume grew 8% along with an 8.3% avg price gain last 4 wks. Vita Coco volume shot up 17.3% along with a 6.8% avg price increase for 4 wks. On refrigerated side Harmless Harvest volume dip of 0.2% was offset with a 10.4% avg price hike last 4 wks. Ethnic player Goya Foods volume fell 6.9% but its avg price rose 14.7% for 4 wks. C20 Pure Coconut water doubled its volume gain to +16.8% for 4 wks with a 1.2% avg price increase.
