The energy drink segment managed to continue to grow volume double-digits while growing avg price too for last 4 wks thru Oct 4 in NielsenIQ data reported by Goldman Sachs. Prices were up in all bev segments listed but volume growth was tough to come by, up only modestly in sparkling flavored water and a solid 8.7% gain in coconut water segment. CSD Volumes Dip; PEP Price Surge CSD volume declined 2.4% (-1.3% for 12 wks) while avg prices were up a solid 6% for 4 wks. Coca-Cola CSD volume off 0.1% (-0.6% for 12 wks) with a 3.3% avg price gain for 4 wks. KO's no/low-calorie volume up 4.9% along with a 1.8% avg price increase last 4 wks. PepsiCo CSD volume fell 11.5% as its avg price increase reached +14.3% for 4 wks. PEP's low/no volume off 1.3% but avg price grew 7.7% for 4 wks. Keurig Dr Pepper CSD volume dipped 0.5% (-0.7% for 12 wks) on a 4.5% avg price gain last 4 wks. KDP's low/no volume gained 6.2% along with a 4.6% avg price increase for 4 wks. Private-label volume up 9.2% with a modest 0.3% avg price increase last 4 wks. Olipop volume up 27.8% with a 1.8% avg price decrease for 4 wks. National Beverage's Faygo volume down 3.6% but with a 5.1% avg price gain last 4 wks. Zevia volume up 14.7% (matching 12-wk gain pace) on basically flat (+0.1%) avg pricing for 4 wks.Monster, Red Bull, Celsius & Ghost Driving Energy Segment Growth Energy drink volume up 11.1% (+11.4% for 12 wks) along with a 2.2% avg price increase last 4 wks. Monster Energy volume rose 4% (+2.1% for 12 wks) along with a 6.3% avg price hike for 4 wks. While original Monster brand volume was essentially flat over last 4 wks, Monster Ultra volume up 20.6%, Juices Monster up 54.8% and Zero Sugar up 18.9% for 4 wks. Monster-owned Bang volume dropped 14.3% (-12.4% for 4 wks) with an 8.3% avg price gain. Red Bull volume up 9.9% (+11.8% for 12 wks) with just a 0.1% avg price gain for 4 wks. Original Red Bull brand volume up 0.6% for 4 wks while Summer Edition decelerated to a 14.2% gain. Coconut edition remained hot as volume shot up 40.5% and on small base, Red Bull Zero volume up 528% for 4 wks. PepsiCo energy portfolio (not including Celsius) volume off 10.1% with a 0.7% avg price dip for 4 wks. The only gainer among PEP brands listed was Rockstar Boom once again, up 24% for 4 wks. Original Rockstar volume down 7.8% for 4 wks. From now on, turning that around is Celsius Holdings' responsibility, of course, following brand transfer.Celsius (including Alani Nu) volume up 31.8% (down from +39% for 12 wks) with a 0.8% avg price decrease for 4 wks. Vita Coco volume grew 19.1% along with a 4.3% avg price increase for 4 wks. On refrigerated side, Harmless Harvest volume sagged 6.4% but its avg price shot up 11.1% for 4 wks. Among ethnic brands, Goya Foods volume off 8.3% but with a 13.3% avg price boost last 4 wks. C2O Pure Coconut volume grew 20.6% along with 3% avg price gain for 4 wks.
