Downward revision of earnings and price target ($42) "discounts weak industry dynamics and continued share loss," wrote Peter. "While TAP's network modernization efforts have improved flexibility, volume risk remains the dominant driver of earnings volatility," according to Peter. Sharp's in UK "No Longer Financially Viable"; 200 Jobs at Risk, Sez Guardian; UK is MC's Top Growth Mkt Molson Coors also said it plans to shut Sharp's Brewer in UK, "along with its national call centre in Wales," according to The Guardian and other UK news outlets. Co said it was "no longer financially viable." These moves put about 200 jobs at risk, article notes, including 50 at the brewery and 150 at the call center. MC said it was closing the center because 90% of its "customer orders were now made online."TAP bought Sharp's 15 years ago and said it "remains committed" to Sharp's beer brands. But it will shut brewery site down by end of yr. Most of Sharp's sales are from Doom Bar, a top-selling UK cask ale. MC said it was "exploring potential deals with other producers to keep making the beer," wrote The Guardian. Recall, UK is MC's 2d largest mkt ahead of Canada, and its top growth mkt as revs grew 5% to $1.44 bil. But that's primarily driven by larger brands like Madri and Carling.Cowen Questions MC M&A: How Can MC Hit Guidance? Are Parameters Too Conservative? Another analyst report out today from Cowen's Robert Moskow suggests MC looking for M&A to boost its growth, but parameters given suggest smaller deals. MC leadership had a follow-up call after the conference call. "While not stated explicitly, the tone of the follow-up call suggests that the company's 2026 growth outlook of -1% to +1% includes an incremental contribution from tack-on deals," Robert wrote. Even tho this "may in part help address investors' skepticism about the forecast&hellip; we continue to view their market share assumptions as overly aggressive."Then too, mgmt's "M&A parameters imply a sales range of $110-$220 M and a valuation multiple between 1x-3x sales." Deal would be funded by "operating cashflow. While we appreciate the emphasis on financial discipline, they seem to exclude bigger brands with proven track records. As a result," Robert adds, "we struggle to see how the M&A approach can meaningfully inflect their sales declines unless they are willing to extend their balance sheet beyond their 2.5x leverage target." If they were to get outside those parameters, Robert specifically points to more expensive possibilities like Athletic Brewing and Stateside (Surfside), estimating value of each in range of $750 mil to $1 bil.Editor's note: Combo of improved volume trend, typical 1-2% price increase, and incremental 1-2% boost to net revs from M&A could certainly get MC global revenue to its targeted low-single-digit growth in 2026. Especially since it's carrying over incremental sales from Fever-Tree for the first 5 mos of the year too. And (knock on wood) so far, US beer industry trends have improved to start the year, tho who knows how the rest of the yr will unfold.
